Vikkie Hart is Payroll Manager at Motia, responsible for ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while supporting the business with payroll reporting, pensions, and employee queries. Having been with Motia for 14 years, Vikkie has progressed through several roles across the business and has built a successful career through continuous development and a willingness to embrace new opportunities.
I am Payroll Manager at Motia and a typical day varies depending on what part of the pay cycle we are in.
It could be inputting pay amendments such as commissions and absence deductions, running KPI reports for Finance, reporting figures to HMRC, processing our pension upload for the month, or assisting with queries that staff members may have.
I have been with Motia for 14 years.
I started as an Administration Assistant in the Card Admin department back in 2012.
Later that year, I moved to the MileageCount development team, helping with the development and rollout of the MileageCount system. I then became Supervisor of the support team before moving into Payroll in 2015.
When I started in Payroll, I was an Administrator before progressing to Supervisor the following year. I became Payroll Manager in 2023 after completing my Level 3 qualification.
Completing my Level 3 qualification and passing my exams with 93%.
It had been a long time since I had sat any exams, so I was really proud of that achievement.
I have always been given opportunities to develop through both external training and in-house learning.
I have always been encouraged to progress in my role and have been given the support needed to do so.
My manager Hazel has always supported me both professionally and personally. I would not be where I am today without her.
I like the variation in tasks but also the fact that, on the whole, it is pretty structured.
The people are fantastic and we have such a great team.
We work to very tight deadlines, so it can be challenging if we do not receive information in a timely manner, as this can have a knock-on effect on the rest of the payroll process.
It has got to be the people. We have a lot of talented individuals who bring so much to the business.
People are really supportive of each other. It is great to see colleagues celebrating each other's successes, whether that is making a big sale or earning a promotion.
Motia is always evolving and finding ways to move forward with changes in the industry. I have never experienced that anywhere else I have worked.
I would enjoy swapping roles with someone who implements new systems. I really enjoyed that aspect of my work within MileageCount and would love to be involved in that again.
I am Vikkie Hart and I live in Bradford with my husband Josh, our two children, Ernie and Peggy, and our Staffy, Shadow.
I love going to the theatre. You cannot beat a good musical!
I also enjoy relaxing with a nice cup of tea while watching TV or reading a good book.
I am currently trying to get into gardening. I would love to have a garden overflowing with colourful flowers and plants.

A good work-life balance is important.
Your career and personal life should complement each other and not work against each other.
Do not be afraid to try different roles throughout your career.
It takes time to find the role that fits you best, and sometimes you discover it completely by accident.
