About Mark

Mark is General Manager of our Burnley office, responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations and leading multiple sales teams to deliver strong performance. With 23 years in the business, Mark has progressed from Sales Representative to General Manager and plays a key role in driving team success and office performance.

Let’s start with your role, what do you do at Motia?

My current role is General Manager of the Burnley office. Alongside a very successful management team, I oversee the day-to-day running of the office.

This includes managing three sales teams and working closely with Team Leaders to ensure we align strategies with company objectives and achieve all business KPIs.

How long have you been with the business?

23 years.

Tell us about your career journey

I began my career in 2003 at the age of 17 as a Sales Representative, straight out of school. At the time, I was not sure if sales was the right path for me, but I am still here, so something must have gone right.

I spent 15 years in sales, which I thoroughly enjoyed, before moving into management. I started as an Assistant Team Leader and quickly progressed to Team Leader in 2018, a role I found incredibly rewarding, especially being able to share my knowledge and see my team grow.

In 2025, I stepped into the General Manager role on a temporary basis, which later became permanent. It is a role I continue to really enjoy.

What has been your proudest moment?

Getting to where I am today without college or university qualifications, just through determination, hard work, and a bit of stubborn resilience.

With the right support and guidance along the way, I have built the confidence and skills to do the role well. It proves you do not always need the traditional path to succeed.

How has Motia supported your development?

With the right career guidance and strong support along the way, I have been able to build the confidence and skills needed to progress into my current role. That support has been key in helping me develop and grow within the business.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

The fact that no two days are ever the same. The variety keeps things interesting and always gives me something new to learn or get involved in.

It is a fast-paced environment, but also a genuinely fun place to work, which makes coming to work something I look forward to. What really stands out for me is the people. There is a great team spirit and everyone supports each other, which creates a positive atmosphere where you feel part of something bigger.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

The most challenging part of my job is keeping my impatience in check while dealing with people who seem determined to test it.

I do not suffer fools gladly, so staying professional when things move slower than they should, or when common sense goes missing, is a daily exercise in self-control.

What is the best thing about working at Motia?

The people and the team environment. There is a strong sense of support and collaboration across the business, which makes coming to work enjoyable.

How would you describe the culture?

The company culture is inclusive and encourages open communication and idea sharing. It promotes a positive mindset, strong collaboration across teams, and maintains a clear focus on both employee wellbeing and delivering excellent customer outcomes.

If you could switch roles with anyone for a day, who would it be?

Sarah Molloy, no explanation needed.

Tell us a bit about life outside of work

I am a Burnley lad and have lived around the area all my life. I am a dad to three children who keep me on my toes and take up most of my time.

I recently joined the gym after hitting a certain age milestone and realised my body is now working against me, but I do enjoy it and it is great for a positive mindset.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

If I am not picking up my children after work, you will usually find me in the gym or socialising.

I am a big TV and film fan and can often be found binge-watching all sorts of different categories.

Any hidden talents?

No hidden talents anymore, but I am definitely committed to keeping active and making time for the gym these days.
